Description

Proof 1912 Indian Two-and-a-Half, Ex: Buddy Ebsen

1912 $2 1/2 PR63 PCGS. Housed in a first generation PCGS holder, this lovely honey-brown example displays the matte finish that characterizes proof gold coins of this era. Of course, this finish also accounts for this coin's rarity, as few collectors preserved these coins at the time of issue. Only 55-65 pieces are believed extant from an original mintage of 197 coins, an estimate that makes the 1912 the rarest date in the proof Indian Quarter Eagle series. Fully defined, the surfaces are free of distractions with the exception of a few minor grazes in the upper reverse field.
Ex: Buddy Ebsen Collection (Superior, 5/87), lot 2373.
