Gem Matte Proof 1913 Quarter Eagle
    Few Finer at PCGS

1913 $2 1/2 PR65 PCGS. CAC. The 1912 and 1913 matte proof quarter eagles both show about equal rarity and similar surface finishes, and both are absolutely rare in the overall scheme for the type. The surfaces on this Gem PCGS proof show medium-sized granules that create the typical modicum of reflectivity at the microscopic level. The surfaces exhibit deep reddish-gold coloration, complementing a daub of lilac on the Indian's face and the eagle's wings. The grade is limited from an even finer one by a couple of near-imperceptible contact marks on the upper reverse. An issue seldom seen finer. Population: 14 in 65, 9 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 289M, PCGS# 7962)
