    Description

Rare 1913 Indian Quarter Eagle, PR 65 PCGS

1913 $2 1/2 PR 65 PCGS. Unlike the 1908 and 1911, the 1913 was produced with a fine sandblast finish. This issue is rare, with only 60-75 pieces believed extant out of an original mintage of 165 coins. Lovely honey-gold color dances across both sides of this pristine specimen. The surfaces are crisply struck with full definition over the Indian's headdress and the eagle's shoulder feathers. There do not appear to be any hairlines that would preclude an even higher grade. This is the first Gem 1913 proof quarter eagle that we have offered since 1997--as true a statement of this coin's rarity if ever there was one.
From the Richard Allen Collection. (NGC ID# 289M, PCGS# 7962)
