    Description

Highly Desirable 1914 Choice Matte Proof Quarter Eagle

1914 $2 1/2 PR64 PCGS. After the final-year 1915, the 1914 boasts the lowest mintage (117 pieces) among proof Quarter Eagles of the Indian type. All were struck with a coarse, sandblast finish (per Breen, 1988), and the typical color is well represented by this olive-gold specimen. This coin is devoid of bothersome incompleteness of strike, and the surfaces are also remarkably abrasion-free even for the PR64 level of preservation. In fact, the outward appearance is suggestive of a Gem designation, although close inspection under a loupe reveals a few miniscule contact marks in the reverse field. Nevertheless, this is an attractive representative of an issue with an extant population of perhaps only 60-70 pieces. Population: 24 in 64, 7 finer (7/04).(#7963) (Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 289N, PCGS# 7963)

    Weight: 4.18 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
