    Description

Superb Gem Proof 1914 Quarter Eagle
    An Immaculate Example

1914 $2 1/2 PR67 NGC. The 1914 quarter eagle business strike is a conditional rarity, although one overshadowed by the low-mintage 1911-D. The 1914 proof quarter eagle, on the other hand, is downright rare in any grade, and more so in the Superb Gem proof level of the present piece. The Mint reported a mintage of 117 examples, but this specimen of one of an even dozen submissions (likely not all different coins) at NGC, with but four finer (4/12). The preservation on each side is essentially perfect, to the degree that there are really no visible pedigree identifiers. The strike is a tad soft on the lowest headdress feather, and the surfaces display a deep, brownish-tinged gold color throughout.(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 289N, PCGS# 7963)
