Description

1915 Indian Quarter Eagle, PR67
Rare Final Proof Issue

1915 $2 1/2 PR67 NGC. Proof Indian quarter eagles were struck for the last time in 1915, when a meager mintage of 100 coins was produced. The 1915 is considered the key to the proof series, as it is the most elusive issue in absolute terms and the second rarest in high grade. It is likely that some proofs went unsold and were either melted or released into circulation after the end of the year. In The Gold Indians of Bela Lyon Pratt, Allan Schein estimates the surviving population at no more than 60 examples in all grades.

This magnificent Superb Gem proof exhibits razor-sharp definition on all design elements and the impeccably preserved orange-gold surfaces show the flat matte luster typical of the series. Eye appeal is tremendous. We expect intense competition from series specialists when this lot is called. Census: 6 in 67, 2 finer (3/19).(Registry values: N7079)
