1938 Jefferson Nickel, PR67 Cameo
Rare as a Cameo
1938 5C PR67 Cameo NGC. A brilliant, boldly struck, and
beautifully preserved example of the first-year proof Jefferson
nickel. The portrait and Monticello are frosty. Proof coins from
the 1930s and 1940s rarely exhibit cameo contrast. The 1938 proof
Jefferson is singularly important with the Cameo designation, as
just three such pieces are reported by NGC and PCGS combined, all
in PR67. Census: 2 in 67 Cameo, 0 finer (2/19).Ex: ANA Signature (Heritage, 8/2016), lot 3563, which realized $4,700.(Registry values: P1)
