Description

1939 Jefferson Nickel, PR68
Scarce Reverse of 1940

1939 5C Reverse of 1940, FS-901, PR68 PCGS. CAC. Only a slender percentage of proof 1939 nickels exhibit the "Straight Steps" reverse that was employed for most subsequent dates in the series. PCGS lists four Cameo examples, the finest of which are graded PR67. But Superb Gems, Cameo or not, are highly sought-after.

The present essentially immaculate, CAC-approved representative is the sole finest certified, the only coin in PR68 at either leading service (5/16). Beautifully patinated lime-green, ruby-red, and lemon-gold surfaces yield deep reflectivity in the fields and rich, satiny luster over the fully rendered relief elements. For the Jefferson nickel Registry Set collector, this is a key-date issue.
