Description

1941 Nickel, Richly Toned PR68
One of the Finest Known

1941 5C PR68 PCGS. This date from the earliest sub-series of proof Jefferson nickels, which spans from the design's debut in 1938 to the "war nickel" proofs of 1942, has a number of challenging dates for high-end Registry collectors. The 1941 in particular proves elusive at the top grade level, PR68, as PCGS has certified only seven such coins and none finer; with five pieces graded PR67 at NGC (9/20). This boldly impressed example displays bright reflectivity that shines through layers of rich patina. Nickel-white to gold colors are prominent at the centers, while the margins show peach, olive, and pink hues.
