    Description

    1821 N-1 Cent, PR60 Brown
    From the Peter Mougey Collection

1821 1C PR60 Brown PCGS. N-1, R.6 as a Proof. Our EAC Grade PR55. Housed in a green-label PCGS holder. Struck from new, crisp dies with no evidence of rim crumbling seen on most or all business strikes. All aspects of the strike are bold, with slight doubling noted on the stars and on the reverse letters. Both sides have reflective fields, although they are not deeply mirrored as expected on later era proofs. The surfaces host myriad marks, consistent with the grade, and exhibit intermingled tan, olive-brown, and steel-blue, with considerable orange mint color on the reverse. PCGS has certified nine proof 1821 cents (11/13) over the last 27 years, and that population likely includes resubmissions.

Thomas Elder described this piece as: "Iridescent, steel colored proof, with some redness. Extremely rare in such preservation."
