    Description

    1821 N-1 Cent, PR62 Brown
    Iridescent Toning

1821 1C PR62 Brown PCGS. N-1, R.6 as a Proof. Fully mirrored surfaces frame the crisply detailed devices of this pleasing proof large cent. The hair details are crisp, the star centers have full delineation, and the legends are denticles are boldly impressed. Attractive sky-blue patina appears over the brown obverse surface with light gold toning and faint violet peripheries. A tiny planchet flaw appears on Liberty's nose and a horizontal scratch is tangent to her top hair strands.

In the March 2004 American Numismatic Rarities sale, the cataloger gave this piece an extensive provenance dating back to the 1880s, including such owners as William Poillon, Thomas Cleneay, Virgil Brand, Louis Helfenstein, R. Tettenhorst, and the Legend Collection. However, their provenance is entirely incorrect and does not match this coin. Our EAC grade PR55.

With the superb catalog, a masterwork prepared by Mark Borckhardt, the sale was destined to meet all of my expectations; that it did, and then some. Be assured that I would highly recommend Heritage Auctions to any of my associates contemplating the sale
