1829 N-6 Cent, PR62 Brown
Important Bronzed Proof
1829 1C N-6, R.6 as a Proof, Bronzed, PR62 Brown NGC. Soft
olive-green hues permeate both sides of this important bronzed
proof, complemented by golden highlights that illuminate the
reverse lettering. A spot below the bun is noted for pedigree
purposes. All known 1829 cent proofs were struck from the same die
marriage: N-6. Rumors of a proof example of N-8 in the collection
of Dr. George French have not been confirmed. Two proofing
processes were used for 1829 proof cents: the familiar brilliant
proofs, and bronzed proofs, unique to the series save for one
specimen of 1834 N-7. The planchets were treated with bronzing
powder prior to striking, causing the distinctive matte-like
appearance. This process is typically associated with 19th Century
copper mint medals and was also used on early 1860s copper eagle
patterns. The reverse is rotated about 45 degrees counterclockwise,
