    Description

1841 1C PR 64 Brown PCGS. The few dozen proof large cents produced in 1841 were undoubtedly intended for sale to collectors. It is interesting to note, however, that the proof silver issues of 1841 are considerably rarer than the large cent. This suggests that large cents may have been distributed either individually or as part of proof sets. Regardless of the validity of this statement, we are certain than no more than 35-40 of the cents are extant today. This is an uncommonly well centered coin for the issue, but the reverse draws slightly to the top. All peripheral details are, however, fully defined and the central devices show razor sharp striking definition that can only be the result of proof execution. Even chocolate-brown patina blankets both sides and there are no readily evident distractions. An elusive bidding opportunity for the advanced copper specialist. (NGC ID# 226S, PCGS# 1952)
