Description

Rare N-1 PR64 Red and Brown 1841 Cent

1841 1C PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. N-1, R.5. If the obverse's pale copper-orange and lavender surfaces were not convincing enough in their reflectivity, the sharp point to the lowest curl of Liberty's hair is an unmistakable die marker for this specimen's proof status. The reverse is more mellowed, rendering the Red and Brown designation accurate, and both sides show a few small carbon spots, yet this coin has incredible eye appeal. As with any other proof large cent, this is a coin of great importance; though actual strikings likely numbered more than the "couple of dozen" suggested by Walter Breen in his Proof Encyclopedia, the issue is a rarity regardless of condition.
