Description

1841 N-1 Cent, PR65 Brown
Proof-Only Die Pair

1841 1C PR65 Brown PCGS. N-1, R.5. Our EAC Grade PR60. Grellman Die State a. This intricately struck Gem has beautiful chocolate-brown toning and exceptional eye appeal. A loupe fails to locate any contact, and no spots are noticeable. A couple of dozen proofs were struck according to Breen, and six were sold in the Chapmans' Eavenson Sale of 1903. Once the 1841 proofs were minted, the reverse die was carried over to produce proofs and business strikes of 1842 Newcomb-1. Proof Petite Head cents are rare, and the present specimen provides an exemplary representative of the type. Population: 2 in 65 Brown, 2 finer (11/13).
