    Description

    1842 Cent, PR63+ Brown, N-1
    Perhaps a Half-Dozen Survive

1842 1C PR63+ Brown NGC. N-1, R.7 as a proof. Small Date. The curl point is directly over the upright of the 4 in the date, and a tiny die lump appears above the rim, beneath the 1. The N-1 die pairing is rarer even as a business strike than the N-2, the other Small Date die. In proof format, this piece is perhaps one of a half-dozen survivors and the first we have offered in many years. The rims are bold and squared off all the way around the coin on both sides, and the strike is impeccable. The Brown designation is inadequate for the lovely aqua patina with glints of jade and pinkish-gold that appears on the surfaces beneath a light. Our EAC grade PR62. Census: 1 in 63 (1 in 63+) Brown, 2 finer (4/13).(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 272P, PCGS# 1955)

    Weight: 13.48 grams

    Metal: 100% Copper
