    Description

    Proof-Only 1845 N-14 Cent, PR65 Brown
    Fewer Than 12 Known

1845 1C PR65 Brown PCGS. N-14, Low R.7. The proof-only N-14 is the only 1845 variety known in that format with all other die marriages seeing only business-strike coinage. Less than a dozen of these pieces are known, including three impaired pieces and one example in the Smithsonian collection. The present Gem is the second finest certified behind a PR66 Brown PCGS specimen. PCGS and NGC have graded just 10 proofs of the date, including resubmissions. A glass reveals faint hairlines on the reverse with a small bright orange area on the branch right of CENT. Deep blue and magenta overtones appear on the reddish-brown surfaces of this Gem. Proof examples of this date are rare and this piece is the first we have offered. Our EAC grade PR60+.
