    Description

1846 Tall Date Cent, PR64 Brown
    Very Rare Proof-Only N-24
    Ex: Naftzger

1846 1C Tall Date PR64 Brown PCGS. N-24, High R.7. Our EAC Grade PR60. Ex: Naftzger Collection. The sole Tall Date proof-only variety. Die lines near the earlobe and the ER in LIBERTY identify the obverse. The reverse is the usual proof die with a die scratch on the rim past 9 o'clock. A fully struck golden-brown specimen with nicely mirrored fields. Faint hairlines and a small spot on the field near the chin determine the grade. N-24 is the second rarest (four or five known) proof-only variety in the late large cent series. Only the 1852 N-24 (three known) is rarer. The present cent is graded PR62 by Grellman and PR60 by Noyes with photo #55044. Both list the piece as CC#3.
