    Description

    1849 N-30 Cent, PR63 Brown
    Few Proofs Known

1849 1C PR63 Brown PCGS. N-30, R.6, R.7 as a Proof. Grellman Die State a, without reverse die crumbling inside the N of ONE. A glass reveals myriad obverse die lines There is a difference of opinion among specialists regarding the proof status of these coins that were once attributed as N-1 proofs, but now correctly identified as N-30. The obverse is the same die as N-1, but the reverse is a die that was unknown to Newcomb.

Bob Grellman believes that all are business strikes. However, the cataloger agrees with Denis Loring who records a small number of proofs in his census. This sharply struck piece has underlying mint red beneath bluish-brown patina on each side. The few scattered marks on each side are entirely inconsequential. Our EAC grade PR60.(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 226Y, PCGS# 1976)
