Description

Richly Colored 1854 Large Cent, PR 64 Red PCGS

1854 1C PR 64 Red PCGS. The 1 is the date is repunched south, this being a diagnostic feature of this scarce, pre-1858 proof delivery. Breen (1977) asserts that perhaps 30-50 example of this issue are extant, some of which are impaired. An effulgent, cherry-red example, both sides displays moderately glassy fields and glimmering reflectivity. There is a small carbon spot in the field before Liberty's nose, but the minimally hairlined surfaces have the look of an even higher grade. This date is seldom encountered with fully lustrous features.
