Description

1856 Slanted 5 Large Cent, PR64 Brown
N-5, Outstanding Proof Type Coin

1856 1C Slanted 5, N-5, Low R.5, PR64 Brown PCGS. CAC. The only known proof dies. John Grellman (2001) suggests this proof-only variety was struck soon after large cent production ceased in 1857. A melange of reddish-tan, gold-brown, and aqua-green adorns exceptionally well-preserved surfaces; the only pedigree-marker we can find is an inoffensive mark on the left part of Liberty's neck. A well-executed strike imparts outstanding definition to the design features. Population: 5 in 64 Brown, 3 finer (11/15). Our EAC grade PR60.
