Gem Proof 1856 Large Cent
1856 PR 65 Brown. A needle sharp strike with nearly perfect, deeply mirrored surfaces. Close examination reveals a few tiny dark spots on the obverse with one noticeable spot to the left of the fifth star. This lovely piece is chocolate-brown with areas of blue and mint red. Breen estimates that more than one hundred pieces are known in proof, but we feel the number known is much lower and few can equal this outstanding example.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2274, PCGS# 1997, Greysheet# 1198)
