Elusive Large Date Variant

1854 $20 Large Date -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. Only about 10% of the original mintage (757,899 double eagles) is estimated to have included Large Date coins. All coins struck with the Large Date punch exhibit a die dot on Liberty's neck above the 8 and diagonal die lines within the space between the lowest curls. This is a bright yellow-gold twenty dollar gold piece with the typical number of abrasions scattered over the surfaces. Strike detail is strong on this Type One double eagle, characteristic of the issue.
