    Description

Exceptionally Rare PR 63 1860 Double Eagle

1860 PR 63 PCGS. Rich copper-gold toning with frosty devices and endless depth of field gives this piece a stunning cameo contrast. There are light hairlines on both obverse and reverse, but no large imperfections are evident. The listed mintage of 59 pieces is definitely misleading as Breen states, "Fewer than 10 survive." We feel that it may be even less, as only 4 pieces have been graded by NGC and PCGS (1/99), and one of those is a PR 30. We can say without fear of contradiction that this piece is one of the great rarities of the double eagle series. (NGC ID# 26DB, PCGS# 9072)
