Description
Select Proof 1905 Double Eagle
1905 $20 PR63 NGC. The proof 1905 double eagles are associated with a lower-mintage business strike issue, though gold proofs, unlike their copper or silver counterparts, are usually rarities in their own right and rarely contemplated as substitutes for circulating issues. This sharply defined Select specimen has gleaming yellow-gold surfaces with hints of lemon color and impressive mirrors. While the obverse shows a number of hairlines in the portrait area and a few contact marks on Liberty's forehead, the piece remains strongly appealing to the unaided eye. One of just 92 proofs for the year. Census: 3 in 63, 8 finer (11/09).(Registry values: P1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26ET, PCGS# 9121, GSID# 10122)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
Weight: 33.44 grams
AGW: 1.06oz
