Description

Circulated Proof 1906 Double Eagle, PR55
Deeply Mirrored Fields

1906 $20 PR55 PCGS. One of Walter Breen's favorite ways to explain whether a coin was a proof or not is "It carries its own credentials." It was not a precise explanation, but it worked. This coin certainly carries its own credentials as a proof in spite of the fuzziness in the fields from obvious time in circulation. The fields show extraordinary depth of reflectivity, definitely unlike a prooflike business strike. Curiously there are a substantial number of circulated proofs known of the 1906, 10 in fact. Each side shows numerous small contact marks with other coins. The color is orange-gold and the striking details are complete throughout. Population: 3 in 55, 41 finer (9/10).(Registry values: P1)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26EU, PCGS# 9122, Greysheet# 10125)

Weight: 33.44 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
