Description

1906 Double Eagle, PR62
Only 50 to 65 Coins Extant

1906 $20 PR62 PCGS. JD-1, High R.4. Only 94 examples of the 1906 Liberty Head double eagle were struck in proof format, with production holding steady compared to the two previous issues. According to John Dannreuther's United States Proof Coins, Volume IV: Gold, Part II, only 50 to 65 pieces are believed to exist today.
This PR62 representative provides as good an opportunity for budget-conscious collectors to pick a proof Coronet double eagle as they could ever hope to find. Orange-gold surfaces exhibit partial, if undesignated contrast. Scattered contact marks explain the grade, but they have virtually no impact on the appeal of this imposing rarity. Population: 4 in 62, 26 finer in this category (1/22).(Registry values: P1)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26EU, PCGS# 9122, Greysheet# 10125)

Weight: 33.44 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
