Description
1907 Liberty Head Twenty, PR62
Last Year of the Longacre Motif
1907 $20 PR62 PCGS Secure. Last-year-type collectors should
find this final-year Liberty Head proof double eagle extremely
intriguing and a nice compromise between quality and price. The
long-lasting James B. Longacre design was introduced commercially
in 1850 on the new largest-denomination gold coins, lasting nearly
six decades before the advent of the revamped Saint-Gaudens design
of 1907. Only 78 proof Liberty twenties were produced, and as on
the previous five years, few show any degree of contrast. This
deeply reflective proof displays even medium orange-gold color. A
few contact marks and obvious hairlines explain the grade. PCGS
reports eight in PR62 with 26 finer (6/15).(Registry values: P1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26EV, PCGS# 9123, Greysheet# 10128)
