Description
Rare 1882 Eagle, PR64 Cameo
1882 $10 PR64 Cameo NGC. Proof 1882 ten dollar gold coins, which saw a mintage of 40 pieces, are very rare. Most gold specialists put the number of extant examples at 12 to 15. NGC and PCGS have certified a total of 15 specimens, a number of which are probably resubmitted coins. Most of them display a Cameo finish. The yellow-gold surfaces of this near-Gem Cameo display reflective fields that highlight the frosted devices. An exacting strike delivers virtually complete definition to the design elements, and a few wispy handling marks barely preclude Gem classification. A few interesting lint marks are visible on the obverse. Census: 4 in 64 Cameo, 3 finer (4/09).
