1885 Ten Dollar, PR66 Ultra Cameo
    One of Two Finest Certified

1885 $10 PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC. A total of 65 1885 proof ten dollar gold pieces were reportedly minted. NGC and PCGS have graded 21 examples to date, a number of which are likely resubmitted or crossover coins. One has to wonder what happened to to the remaining 40 or so coins, especially as Breen (1977) indicated that "none were recorded melted."
In any event, the 1885 proof ten is a very rare coin., and the present Premium Gem Ultra specimen is one of the two finest certified by either service! Stunning gold-on-black contrast stands out on both sides, and the frosty design elements are fully struck. The yellow-gold surfaces are immaculately preserved, further enhancing the coin's outstanding eye appeal. This may well be the opportunity of a lifetime for the gold and/or proof specialist.(Registry values: P2)
