    Description

1886 PR 65 Cameo NGC. Ex: Trompeter. One of only 60 proofs of this date, the scarcity of this date speaks of a much rarer coin. Only 15-18 pieces can be accounted for, with very few of these being choice, and only 3 making the gem category. A stunning white on black cameoed proof. This coin has it all: exceptional eye appeal, confirmed rarity, and status as one of the finest known. If one were to look very closely a few very slight, wispy hairlines (not from cleaning) could be discerned, but these really have very little effect on the overall eye appeal of this marvelous coin. As stated, there is a stark cameo contrast on each side that gives the coin an immediate, but lasting, eye appeal. There is a slight planchet mark, visible with a magnifying glass, running down from the lowest point of the 12th star. This piece is tied with one other PR 65 (certified by PCGS). A must-see coin for the advanced gold enthusiast. Population: 1 in 65, with one certified finer (11/98).
