Description
Cameo Proof 1891 Eagle, PR63
1891 $10 PR63 Cameo NGC. This piece would have garnered a full Gem or finer grade except it has a thin scratch in the obverse field. Otherwise, both sides are virtually perfect. It is fully brilliant with pristine, mirrored fields that surround frosty and sharply defined devices. Exceptional contrast, nearly in the Ultra Cameo category. Only about 15 to 20 proofs of this issue survive from a mintage of 48 coins. The existing population includes two Deep Cameo pieces in the Smithsonian Institution. Other known proofs include the Eliasberg-Bass coin, and the Trompeter, Garrett, Pittman, and Carter specimens.(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28FW, PCGS# 88831, GSID# 9691)
