Description
1892 Eagle, Modestly Contrasted PR55
1892 $10 PR55 PCGS. The Guide Book reports a proof mintage of 72 pieces, but perhaps only half of that number have survived. The richly patinated orange-gold surfaces of this PR55 example display modest field-motif contrast when the coin is tilted under a light source. Moreover, its design elements are crisply defined. Scattered light marks attest to a period of brief circulation. Population: 2 in 55, 14 finer (12/13).From the collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation.(Registry values: P2)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28FX, PCGS# 8832, Greysheet# 9693)
Weight: 16.72 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
