Description
1892 Liberty Head Ten, PR62 Ultra Cameo
1892 $10 PR62 Ultra Cameo NGC. The mintage for the 1892 proof Liberty Head eagle is recorded as a relatively high 72 pieces, as compared to 48 in 1891 and 55 in 1893. The date appears at auction fairly frequently, but some proof survivors are impaired and circulated. Many others lack the deep cameo contrast that collectors so covet in proof gold. The present piece, certified by NGC as PR62 Ultra Cameo, offers attractive, stark black-on-gold contrast, a product of the deeply mirrored fields that provide a sharp counterpoint to the devices, thickly covered with mint frost on both sides. The fields show strong orange-peel texture and there are numerous tiny contact marks that account for the grade. There are only two finer certified Ultra Cameo pieces at NGC, both of them PR65 (2/08).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28FX, PCGS# 98832, Greysheet# 9695)
