Description
Circulated Proof 1892 Ten
1892 $10 PR 55 PCGS. Only 72 proofs were originally produced of this year, but there are far fewer survivors today than one might expect. Akers estimated that only 20-25 pieces are known today and Breen weighed in with a low estimate also in the 25-30 range. These numbers, of course, make this coin all the more important for collectors as so few pieces of this date are ever offered for sale. The surfaces have that "fuzzy" look, like the coin slipped into circulation for a while or was carried as a pocket piece. But the fields still retain the diagnostic depth of reflectivity seen on proofs and the striking details are razor sharp. A few contact marks are present, as one would expect, and light reddish patina is seen over each side.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28FX, PCGS# 8832, GSID# 9693)
