Description

Exquisitely Contrasted 1897 Ten Dollar
PR67 Ultra Cameo

1897 $10 PR67 Ultra Cameo NGC. The middle to late 1890s saw some of the highest production values ever on pre-World War II proof coinage. The contrast between mirror fields and frosty devices is remarkable on many (most?) examples, yet there are a handful of astonishing specimens that transcend even this high baseline. This is the single finest proof 1897 eagle in the combined certified population, with only a PR66 Ultra Cameo for company among better-than-Gem specimens regardless of contrast (11/11). Exquisitely detailed with amazingly reflective fields, this Superb Gem proof shows only a couple of tiny pedigree markers, including a minuscule lint mark under Liberty's chin and a pinpoint flaw below the base of the eagle's beak.(Registry values: P1)
