Description

1903 Ten Dollar, PR65
A Rarity in Any Grade

1903 $10 PR65 PCGS. CAC. PCGS and NGC combined report 88 grading events for the 1903 proof eagle, most of which are non-Cameos (1/18). Although this figure is less than the 96 pieces struck, it is still likely that duplication exists in the census. PCGS estimates that only 50 to 65 proofs survive in all grades. In our experience, this issue may be rarer still. Only a handful of auction appearances of this issue have happened in recent years, and since our Permanent Auction Archives began in 1993, we have seen a proof 1903 eagle on only 17 previous occasions. The last of these was in the Summer FUN Signature (Heritage, 7/2013), where a PR64 PCGS coin realized more than $17,000. This CAC-endorsed Gem is far superior. The coin is needle-sharp and displays deep tangerine-gold coloration with deeply mirrored fields. Under a loupe, no distractions are visible. Population: 7 in 65 (1 in 65+), 1 finer. CAC: 4 in 65, 1 finer (1/18).
