Description
Lightly Circulated PR58 1905 Ten Dollar
1905 $10 PR58 NGC. Because of the spending value of ten dollars, proof Liberty Motto eagles were worth only a slight premium over face prior to Roosevelt's gold recall. Even professional numismatists such as B. Max Mehl often simply deposited large denomination gold proof coins at the bank. This still-flashy example may have been spent by an heir during the Great Depression. Decades later, it is worth thousands of dollars, since any proof Liberty eagle is a low mintage rarity. The butter-gold surfaces display minor scuffs from momentary circulation, and the face has a few faint thin marks. Census: 3 in 58, 37 finer (7/09).(Registry values: N1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28GC, PCGS# 8845, GSID# 9732)
