    Description

1905 Ten Dollar Liberty, PR64 Cameo
    Scarce Overall, Rare With Contrast

1905 $10 PR64 Cameo PCGS. CAC. Typical of nearly all gold and silver proofs from the first years of the 20th century, this piece has light cameo contrast, the devices exhibiting satiny luster with deeply mirrored fields. The surfaces on both sides of this near-Gem are fully brilliant with light yellow-gold color. A few wispy hairlines in the left obverse field prevent a higher grade. The most obvious "flaws" we see for tracking the pedigree of this rare proof are both on the reverse: a planchet flake is out of the field above the junction of the eagle's neck and right (facing) wing and there is a line (either a hairline or graver's slip, we aren't certain) that extends from the field left of the eagle's neck to the right. The 1905 is much scarcer than even its low mintage of 86 pieces would indicate. Population: 3 in 64 Cameo, 3 finer (1/16).
