Description

1906 Liberty Eagle, PR63 Cameo
Just 77 Proofs Minted

1906 $10 PR63 Cameo NGC. JD-1, R.5. John Dannreuther suggests that 45 to 55 proofs survive from the mintage of 77 pieces that were struck in March, June, September, and December 1906. Regarding the survivors, Dannreuther comments: "Many of this date's Proofs are found with clear surfaces or frost so light that they do not receive the cameo designation." The present Select Cameo proof is an exception, exhibiting just enough mint frost on the devices to warrant that designation. This piece has fully mirrored fields behind the lustrous devices, showing pleasing orange-gold surfaces and wonderful aesthetic appeal. Just under half of the certified 1906 proof eagles are designated as Cameo proofs at NGC and PCGS. Census: 3 in 63 Cameo, 16 finer (11/21).
