Description

1906 Near-Gem Proof Ten Dollar Rich Orange-Gold Color.

1906 $10 PR64 PCGS. CAC. In spite of the number of examples of this date present in this auction, the 1906 proof ten is actually quite a scarce coin. Perhaps three to four dozen pieces remain today in all grades and degree of contrast, but high-grade examples are challenging. For example, in PR64 PCGS has only certified 13 pieces with seven finer (minus the inevitable resubmissions). And that parenthetical reference to resubmissions does call into question just how many high-grade 1906 proof tens actually exist. Are there 2, 3, 6 pieces inflating the PR64 population data? In any case, this lovely, high-end example that has rich, even orange-gold color. Close examination with a magnifier reveals just the faintest hairlines on the obverse. The only identifying mark is a tiny one below star 6 on the obverse. Excellent value for the grade. coins Est.2(Registry values: P1)
