    Description

1906 $10 PR 58 PCGS. Although the surfaces are heavily scuffed and abraded, the proof status of this coin is undeniable, as the strike is razor sharp and the fields are deeply reflective. The piece retains an attractive look, despite the aforementioned abrasions, and has a warm orange-gold tint. Perhaps this piece was spent during a period of financial hardship by the original owner's heirs, or perhaps it was just mistakenly spent. Either way, it obviously was placed in the channels of commerce, and probably wound up in a bag mixed with other eagles where it later was identified and retrieved by some lucky individual. This "history" is of course speculative, but pieces like this would certainly have a story to tell--if only coins could talk... (NGC ID# 28GD, PCGS# 8846)
