Description
Select Cameo Proof 1867 Half Eagle
Early With Motto Issue
1867 $5 PR63 Cameo PCGS. The official proof mintage of 50
specimens was the highest for the denomination for two years
around, but Garrett and Guth note that the number of survivors is
comparable to that for the surrounding years. This Select Cameo
coin has considerable contrast, more in the frosted devices than in
the partly toned-over fields. Light hairlines and a scattering of
contact marks contribute to the grade. Despite these faults, the
coin remains pleasing to the unaided eye and a notable
representative of an early With Motto proof half eagle issue.
Population: 1 in 63 Cameo, 3 finer (11/12).(Registry values: P4)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28C4, PCGS# 88462, Greysheet# 9186)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
