Description

Circulated Proof 1872 Five-Dollar

1872 PR 53. A slightly circulated proof striking as evidenced by the complete scroll on the reverse (business strikes have incomplete details) and the date being punched in just a bit higher than center in the exergual area. Fully struck and still deeply mirrored in the fields when angled just so under a light. The only distracting marks are a couple in the left obverse field. Only 30 proofs were struck of this rare issue.
