    Description

    Exceedingly Rare 1882 Proof Five

1882 PR 63 PCGS. Although this was a very high-mintage year in terms of business strikes, the proof production was an exceedingly low 48 pieces. Of that scant mintage, PCGS has certified on 6 examples, NGC has graded only 2 pieces. Very few 1882 proofs have been offered for public sale in the past 30 years. This piece is deeply reflective and sports deep, orange-gold and sky-blue patina over both sides. The surfaces are moderately marked from mishandling; numerous milling and contact marks are noted in the fields. The fact remains this is a very rare proof half eagle and an important opportunity for the collector of proof gold coinage. Population: 3 in 63, 4 finer (6/96). (NGC ID# 28CK, PCGS# 8477)

    Weight: 8.36 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
