Description

Starkly Contrasted 1885 Five Dollar
PR64 Ultra Cameo

1885 $5 PR64 Ultra Cameo NGC. Only 66 proofs were produced plus 601,440 coins for circulation. Of that proof production, it is estimated that only 20 or so pieces may exist. Over the past 17 years we have only handled 12 Ultra/Deep Cameo examples. In addition to the stark contrast seen between the fields and devices, one of the first things noticed is the pronounced orange-peel texture of the fields. The grade is explained by a small patch of hairlines in the left obverse field and a short contact mark on the chin of Liberty. Census: 2 in 64 Ultra Cameo, 8 finer (2/10).(Registry values: P4)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28CN, PCGS# 98480, Greysheet# 9241)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
