    Description

Lightly Circulated 1890 Proof Half Eagle

1890 PR 55 PCGS. When one thinks of 1890 fives it is most often the elusive (4,240 minted) business strikes that come to mind. However, proofs are also very rare and seldom seen. Of the 88 pieces originally struck, PCGS and NGC combined have certified only 45 examples (10/98), and some of these are most likely resubmissions. This is a coin that entered circulation for a short time. It still shows a remarkable contrast between the fields and devices on both sides, although there is obvious wear in the fields and on the highpoints. An affordable opportunity. (NGC ID# 28CU, PCGS# 8485)

    Weight: 8.36 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
