    Description

    1902 PR64 Five Dollar
Uniformly Bright Sheen Over Each Side

1902 $5 PR64 NGC. As one would expect from a mintage of only 162 proofs, high-grade survivors are rare. In fact, probably only 80-100 pieces are extant today in all grades. With the change in proofing methods this year, coins with cameo contrast are in a distinct minority. Also, curiously several examples of the 1902 have been certified in the PR53 to PR58 range, 11 submission events to be precise.
This piece shows the expected uniform sheen on the fields as well as the devices. The fields on each side are noticeably striated also from vigorous die polishing in the Mint. The coin is essentially free from contact marks and each side has glowing yellow-gold color. Census: 6 in 64, 4 finer (4/11).(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 28D8, PCGS# 8497)
