    Description

    1902 Half Eagle, Bright PR64
    Very Scarce in High Grades

1902 $5 PR64 NGC. The 1902 proof Liberty half eagle boasts a mintage of 162 pieces, and unimpaired survivors are very rare in today's market. The Mint employed an all-brilliant finish on proof coins beginning in 1902, so few specimens from this era show any trace of cameo contrast.

This impressive Choice specimen offers fully struck design elements, with little of the mint frost that characterized the earlier proof issues. The fields are deeply mirrored and show some light horizontal die striations on the obverse, with light greenish-gold highlights and outstanding eye appeal. Census: 6 in 64, 4 finer (3/13).
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2011), lot 4672, which realized $12,075; New York Signature (Heritage, 12/2011), lot 4619, which brought $12,075.(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 28D8, PCGS# 8497)
