Description
1904 Half Eagle, PR64
Only 136 Proofs Struck
1904 $5 PR64 NGC. JD-1, R.4. Writing in United States
Proof Coins, Volume IV: Gold, Part II, John Dannreuther
estimates that 80 to 100 of the 136 proof 1904 half eagles struck
survive in all grades. This near-Gem exhibits better contrast on
the reverse than it does on the obverse, though both sides are
equally appealing. Reddish accents complement orange-gold surfaces
that show a few minor points of contact but nothing serious. This
would make for an excellent Coronet half eagle type coin in proof
format, the ultimate representation this longstanding design.
